This is one of those many days when I have more problems than I resolved. I have been trying to avoid talking about my work on this site, however it seems I am not able to today.
For SOX compliance purpose, the consultant request a report with high priority, where my nightmare started.
There is no such a report sitting in the system ready to use coz this user is looking for stock data, valuation data and some plant-specific master data per material. I need to grab data from a few sources to assembly this report. Though I do have a few options to create this report, I wanted to do it in a quick way coz I was stuck in another project. So, I tried ABAP query.
First, the infor set can’t be created because the graphical designer won’t start, it gave me ABAP short dump. I checked the OSS and found some possible solution which directed me to update some windows system file ocx control, active x control. This is beyond my knowledge, dude. All I need to do is just follow the instruction.
OKay, it says I need to download the updated file to replace my current one in local system32 folder. In order to do that, I need to have an SAP Download Manager. (see how far I was from my initial help ticket?, that is not the end yet.) I downloaded the exe file to install Download Manager. Now when I try to download my file using Download Manager, it says I could not connect to my OSS account, thus couldn’t see my “download basket”. SxxT!
For the past two months, I have installed SAP digital certificate which has allowed me to access OSS without typing my password. Therefore I didn’t remember my password anymore!! Now from Download Manager, I had to type in my password! One quick reminder here: there is no other easy way to get the file without using Download Manager. I am in the deadloop.
Trying to get out of my deadloop, I was trying to send request for password reminder or regenerate my password online. Jesus Christ! there is a weird java error and when I click submit button, the page won’t move forward to the next page! I was stuck again! I then asked my boss, who is the administrator of OSS account to reset my password. Apprently he was busy too, and he told me today was his trouble day too!
Then I was trying to calm down, avoid being moody. I knew it was very easy to become passive-agressive in my work this afternoon. I was trying to think about something I could do to get around this headache. I decided to reinstall my GUI to see if I don’t need to download those files. I did. Then I got my last and biggest headache. I reintalled my GUI and it became such a weird one that there was no field to input my username and password but the system kept on asking me for password! Now “Mom, I want to go home!”.
That’s enough for me for today. When I desparately decided to get off, after few hours struggling somewhere very far from the solution of my reporting request, I heard a hilarious song from the desk of my boss, “George, I got your password reset now…”
Thanks God! I am back! still I need to work out my GUI nightmare, but I fee better now. I am writing this message to remind myself of the signs when my working behavior started to go passive-aggressive. I am very glad I was able to control my anger, had my patience with me (literaly) in this great afternoon.
I enjoyed my work, even with my trouble. I feel proud of seeing my life as system analyst/engineering. Most of the time it functions very well in a great order, though sometimes it follows Murphy’s law…
